Description

SCOPWICK BLANKNEY ROAD TF 05 NE B1188 5/32 Farmyard to north of The Firs - II Barn, cowsheds, stables and pigeoncote. c1820. Coursed limestone rubble with red brick dressings. Slate roofs. Brick plinth and dentilated eaves. Very large threshing barn to the north, with off-centre doorway, with double doors with segment brick head with ashlar keystone, to the left 4 brick arches with brick piers between and segment brick arches, to the right a smaller barn door with double doors, and beyond to the right 3 brick arches with brick piers between and segment brick arches, now partially blocked, each with a 3-light C20 window. Above 3 central hayloft openings under segment brick heads with plank doors, to the left four 2- light sliding sashes, under segment brick heads, and to the right 4 similar openings the first 3 with plank doors, the last with a glazing bar casement. To the south of the barn are 3 lower ranges, with 3 crewyards between, linked to the south by walls and gates. The east stable range has alternating stable doors and shuttered windows. The central range of cowsheds, has a tall pigeoncote at the south end, with on the south side 3 tall round headed openings with brick surrounds. This is topped with a hipped roof with a square lantern above with pigeon holes and flight perches, topped with a pyramidal roof surmounted by an iron weather-vane. The south wall either side has 12 brick arched pig feeding troughs. The west range contains cowsheds. Listing NGR: TF0661658392
