Description

Stamford ST MARTINS WITHOUT WATER STREET Welland Lodge and South View TF 00 NW 1/532 Grade II GV Former Stamford East Railway Station. 1856 designed by William Thirst for the Stamford and Essendine private railway company. Converted into 2 houses. Ashlar. Jacobean style. Two storeys. Three bays. The 2 gabled wings with screen between slightly projects at centre with round arched carriageway and mullion/transom dummy window above. This centre piece has pierced parapet with carved stone coat of arms at centre and corbelled pinnacles. The slightly advanced wings have shaped gables also with corbelled pinnacles and finials and carved stone cartouches in the gables. Two-light stone mullion/transom windows. Three storey square tower at the rear south-east corner. Ashlar chimney stacks with paired shafts. Brick tram shed behind. Originally the booking ball was situated behind the central screen.
