Description

TF 11 SW BASTON MAIN STREET (south side) 6/34 Cardyke Farmhouse II House. Late C16 with late C18, C19 and C20 additions and alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with large ashlar quoins and dressings, Collyweston slate roofs, pantile and concrete tiles. Very large external wall stack with tall ashlar shaft and cornice. Single red brick gable shaft. C16 hall block with screens passage has been extended in both directions. Single storey plus attics hall block of 2 bays, having to left of the external stack a 4 centred chamfered arched doorway, now glazed, to screens passage; to rear is a similar door. In the roof a gabled dormer having 2 light casement with rendered cheeks. To the right a late C18 projecting parlour block, 2 storey, single bay with concrete tiled roof, and rendered, having single glazing bar sash with cambered head to each floor. To left an early C19 2 storey painted brick and pantile roofed kitchen block, now with C20 windows. Interior of C16 block has large stone fireplace with 4 centred pointed chamfered surround with double-roll stops. Ground floor girders are chamfered with triangular stops. C18 built-in corner cupboard. Oak pegged clasped purlin roof, all commons, no ridge piece. Top of wattle and daub partition on line of spere truss survives in the roof. Source: D. L. Roberts.
