Full Description

A dense scatter of Roman pottery of the second to fourth century including building material and other artefacts, found during field walking in Wragby parish. The scatter of building debris and pottery indicates a building covering an area of some 45m by 30m, with the presence of hypocaust (underfloor heating system) material and a single painted wall-plaster fragment. The pottery recovered from this area is dominated by local grey wares with the occasional fragment of regional and imported fine wares and a southern Spanish amphora sherd (amphorae were used to transport olives, oil and wine). {1}
