Full Description

Second World War structures were located at Fields Farm, including a former pillbox, searchlight unit and air raid shelter. Local residents remember an anti-air gun emplacement on the site as well, although the exact type and calibre of the gun is uncertain. The shelter was one of at least four built in the Sutton Bridge area by a local builder. It was accessed by two flights of steps on opposite sides of the shelter, which led to an inner chamber, the walls of which were plastered. All of the structures were removed after the war, apart from the air raid shelter, which survives extant in the back garden of the private farmhouse at Fields Farm. {1}
