Full Description

A barn, now a garage and outhouses, dating from the mid 18th century which underwent alterations in the late 19th century. It was constructed of red brick and the converted building has a pantile roof which is hipped to the right and half hipped to left. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Tree-ring analysis of some of the roof timbers was undertaken by Nottingham Tree-ring Dating Labratory in 2011, revealing that they date from 1591-1700. This means that the timbers were all felled in a single programme in about 1700 for the roof. {2} A building survey of Bardney Manor Barn was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology in Janurary 2011. The barn was originally a building of unknown function which was converted to a stable and then in the mid 19th century it became a farm building, with a tackroom, creamery, cartshed and accomodation. It was constructed in about 1700. {3}{4} Decorative stone was found in the garden during excavation for a treatment plant in November 2012. The stone is a 45 feet long piece that was reused as the foundation for a wall. It was recorded and recovered. {5}
