Full Description
PRN 38835
This building, along with no. 13 (PRN 30698), is on the site of the late medieval George and Angel Inn which was acquired by Richard Newcomb in 1843 with the intention of creating a new street between St Mary's Street and High Street. However, only these two shops were built. They are of matching design with elegant shop fronts and were built around 1849. The remaining part of the inn is to the rear on the east side of a narrow yard and consists of two storeys in coursed rubble of late 18th century date. The ground floor was formerly a kitchen and has heavy chamfered beams. The first floor was used as an assembly room in the 19th century. There is a parallel range to the west which consists of a smithy and is early 19th century. {1}
This three storey building dates to the first half of the 19th century. It has a good shop front and is identical to no. 13. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2}
