Full Description

PRN 38584 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] This house dates to the late 18th century. It has an unusual plan including access to one of the main rooms from the street (this doorway is now filled by a window). This room may have been used for commercial purposes whilst the rest of the house, entered from the side, remained private. The interior retains some original features including plaster cornices and some fireplaces. The east wing is a modern addition and includes reset 15th century stonework in the north gable. These stones probably came from a previous building on the site which is shown in a painting. {1} This two storey house dates from the 17th century and has a mid 18th century front [these dates are probably incorrect - see above]. It is two storeys in height with attics and is constructed of coursed rubble with a slate roof. There is a late 19th century extension on the east side which has a large bay. There is a small stonewalled terrace garden to the front. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2}
