Full Description

This house was originally timber framed, although it is now cased in stone and is probably of 16th or early 17th century date. In the east gable a tie beam and rafters are exposed. The plan of the house and its steeply pitched roof indicate its early origins. {1} This two storey house is of 17th century date [it may be earlier than this - see above] but is much altered. It is built of coursed rubble and has a steep roof which has been retiled in Welsh slate. It has modern windows and doors. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2} An early post-medieval layer of made ground was recorded in this location in December 2011, during archaeological monitoring of development to the rear of 7 St Leonard's Street. The layer was composed of small pieces of limestone rubble mixed with a clayey silt, and was deposited as an attempt to level the area prior to the construction of the current house. {3}{4}
