Full Description

PRN 37663 This two storey coursed rubble house dates from the 17th century and later. It has a single two-storey bay window which contains a datestone reading 'AM 1663'. The doorway is an in situ 12th century Norman arch with a later door. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This house is ostensibly 17th century, probably dating to around 1663, however it contains two features of late 12th century date. These consist of a 12th century roundheaded doorway (with a 17th century keystone) in the street elevation and a small rectangular window high up in the rear wall which may have lit a former stair. The street front also has a two-storey bay window with a lozenge shaped panel inscribed 'AM 1663' and other 17th century windows. Part of the rear wall was removed in the 17th century when a rear wing was added. The interior includes re-used early timbers and some late 17th century bolection-moulded panelling in the entrance passage. The roof is 17th century. {2} The front door to this house is a plain unmoulded 12th century arch with a later keystone. It has not been rebuilt and is clearly in situ. {4}
