This pair of two storey houses dates to the late 18th or early 19th century, and is constructed of coursed rubble with a slate mansard roof. No. 17 has a modern shop front. These houses were rebuilt in the late 18th century by Alderman Robert Hunt as the Salutation Inn. No. 17 is marginally earlier that no. 16 but has been gutted when it was turned into a shop. {2}
