Full Description

PRN 48173 A cottage dating from the early 19th century which was rendered and constructed of colour washed red brick. It has a slate roof with single ridge and single gable stacks. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} A photographic building recording was carried out prior to proposed alterations, including the reversal of unsympathetic modern alterations, to the building. The farm house is probably of early 19th century date, however local traditions record the same family (the Heneages, who were tenant farmers on the Hainton Estate) living there since the late 17th century. It appears to have undergone several alterations during its earlier history, including the additions of an extension to the right of the original building and a lean-to with catslide roof at the rear. During the 1980s a number of 'renovations' were carried out including the removal of the back staircase and the replacement of a wooden floor with plaster. The building retains some wooden sash windows (some with shutters) on the front elevation including some Yorkshire sliding sashes. Some of the interior doors appear to be of 19th century date, and there is some panelling in the living room. The living room also includes a large fireplace with a timber lintel. The associated farm buildings include a granary, tractor shed and crew yard, and have been extensively altered. There is also a well in the yard. {2} Church Farm, South Willingham. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard with L-plan range plus detached buildings to the third side of the yard. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within or in association with a village. Large modern sheds are located to the side of the site. {3}
