Full Description

A cottage dating from the 18th century which underwent alterations in the 20th century. It was constructed of colour washed mud and some colour washed brick and has a thatched roof covered in corrugated iron which is painted red. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The cottage underwent an extensive restoration programme in 2002/3, which included removing the metal roof covering and re-thatching the building. The house had formerly been known as the White Cottage, but it was discovered during the restoration that the original colour of the walls had been pink. The walls were therefore re-painted that colour, and the building now goes by the name of Foreman's Cottage. The 20th century casement noted in the list description as being to the right of the south doorway has been replaced by a Yorkshire sash similar to that to the left of the door. The list description mentions the 20th century brick extension to the rear, but does not mention a further 20th century brick extension to the east. {2}
