Full Description

A Roman gold coin ring was found in Benniworth parish during the 18th century. Details of the find were published in the early 19th century, but the description given is not clear. The ring may be a contemporary copy of a third century aureus or fifth century solidus. However it is probably a genuine aureus of Geta. {1}
There is a detailed discussion of the find by Roger Bland who considers that the coin is a genuine one of Geta or Probus. The ring was found in abut 1765. {2}
