Full Description
It has been speculated that the place name 'Anna' may have been derived from Annachorage or Anchorage, indicating the site of a hermitage. An enclosure surrounded by a fosse, with the remains of an ancient building within it, was seen at the site sometime prior to the mid 19th century, however by 1872 any surviving remains had been incorporated into the farm buildings (PRNs 64879 and 64880?). [Note - the location of this record is conjectural, and there is another farm called Holdingham Anna at TF 0406 4699 which could also be the location referred to in the source.] {1}
