Full Description

17th century house built of coursed limestone rubble, with 19th and 20th century alterations. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} An extension to the rear of The Cottage was the subject of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in March 2007, to inform its proposed demolition and rebuilding. The recorded extension was single-storey, being built of brick laid predominantly in Flemish Stretcher bond, and featured a gabled roof of red pantiles. The structure was believed to be 19th century in date, although most of the doors and windows had been replaced in the 20th century. The extension was thought to have originally functioned as a bake and brew house, replacing an earlier and larger service wing that had previously been attached in the same location, to the southern side of the former yeoman house. {3}{4}
