Full Description

Former school. One and a half storey red brick building in Flemish Bond, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Ashlar window and door surrounds. Low brick plinth. Hipped roof porch on north elevation. Dentil course at eaves height. {1} The school is shown in its current plan form on the 1905 O.S. map. {2} The school was built by subscription in 1828, on land given by the Marquis of Bristol. The schoolmaster in 1856 was Joseph Wright, who was paid out of the rent from the allotments allocated for the poor of the parish, in return for which he was expected to teach all the poor children of the parish. There also appears to have been a boarding school in the village run by the Misses Capp, but the location of this is unknown. {3} The school was closed in the summer of 1987, with pupils transferred to Heckington. {4}
