Full Description

PRN 36566 98 trial trenches were excavated at Manor Pit, Baston prior to gravel extraction. Uncovered was evidence of Romano-British acitivity during the 2nd and 3rd centuries, consisting of pits, ditches and postholes, suggesting a possible trackway, field system and a possible structure. {1}{2} During excavation at Baston Quarry in May and June 2009, Northamptonshire Archaeology revealed further evidence of the trackway identified during trial trenching in 2004. It had two parallel ditches which contained Roman pottery. A further ditch, also containing Roman pottery was also found {3}{4}
