Full Description
Former Wesleyan Chapel built in 1824, with a 20th century schoolroom extension. Constructed in red brick in English Garden bond, with a pantile roof with a coped eastern gable end. A Historic Building Record was undertaken on the former Methodist Chapel, Sturton Road, Stow prior to its conversion to a residential dwelling. A date stone in the front gable records that it was built as a Wesleyan Chapel in 1824. A rear extension comprising Schoolroom, Vestry or office, toilets and kitchen has a row of dated foundation stones of May 23rd 1925. Much of the chapel is of a very plain and simple form very typical of the late Georgian period. {2}
The side walls originally had two bays. Another has been added to the front, and the tablet reset. The building was undergoing conversion during a site visit in February 2005. {3}{4}{5}{6}
