Full Description

This small tower mill is dated 'R.Kyme 1820' and worked until 1952, latterly in an amazingly bad state of repair. It ran for the last few years with the cap stuck in one direction and was therefore only able to work when the wind blew from that quarter. It stood derelict until the late 1960s when the sails were removed and the wind shaft was taken to Morcott mill, Rutland, which was rebuilt as a house. This was a great shame as the mill was in a very complete state albeit very derelict. It was thankfully covered over to protect it from the worst of the weather and stands today in a derelict state, but complete internally. The cap frame is still in place and the old sails still lie at the foot of the tower. There are plans to conserve the mill and maybe to restore it eventually. There were four patent sails, driving one pair of French and one pair of grey stones.{1} A red brick tower windmill built in 1820.
