Full Description

During trial trenching, features indicating the possible presence of timber-framed buildings were recorded. Insubstantial and robbed-out wall foundations are thought to represent sleeper walls for timber-framed buildings. Two possible floor surfaces were also recorded. The buildings were thought to have been demolished in the late 15th or early 16th century. Finds indicate the possiblity of craft/industrial activity on site, possibly including copper-working. {1}{2} Archaeological excavation was undertaken by Archaeological Project Services in 2003 on land between Flaxengate and Danesgate. Evidence of two structures were revealed which date from the 14th to early 16th centuries. Flat blocks which may ahve been the footings for a timber structure were also revealed. {3}{4}
