Full Description

Canwick Mill is depicted as a windmill on the 1st edition 1" Ordnance Survey map, located in the apex of Canwick Hill and Lincoln Road. This mill likely dates from the 18th century, though field names recorded in Canwick suggest the presence of earlier mills in the vicinity. {1}{2} Site of Mill House Farm, Canwick. Demolished 18th century farmstead, in an isolated location and laid out in parallel plan form. The farmhouse was attached to a range of working buildings. {3} The mill is believed to have been worked by Thomas Hibbert in the mid 19th century, with Hibbert being listed as a corn miller in White's 1856 Directory. No corn millers are lisetd in the subsequent 1872 edition of White's Directory. The windmill is not depicted on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map, suggesting the mill had been demolished at some point prior to this survey, and likely between 1856 and 1872. The mill's associated farmstead is depicted as extant, however, where it is named as Mill House. The farm is thought to have survived until its demolition at some point in the later 20th century. {4}{5}{6}
