Full Description
Scatters of Romano-British pottery have been found in this area to the north-west of North Willingham. Two distinct clusters of pottery were noted at grid references TF 157 890 and TF 159 889. The assemblages were largely comprised of fragmentary pieces of Roman greywares of probable 3rd to 4th century date, but also included fragments of kiln debris, and may indicate the location of former pottery kilns in this vicinity. {1}{2}{3}
A low earthwork mound, possibly marking the location of another former pottery kiln, was identified in this area by a local resident in October 2020. The mound was identified as a dark stained soil mark measuring roughly 30m across, and located in the area of grid reference TF 15637 88968. The surface of the mound was strewn with a further scatter of dark grey Roman pottery sherds. {4}
