Full Description

The earliest elements of the Church of All Saints date from the 13th century, and it also has 14th and 15th century features. The chancel was rebuilt in 1851 by Nicholson and restored by Sir S.G. Scott in 1859-1860, and again in 1870-1874. It is built of coursed and squared limestone rubble with a tone coped slate and lead roof and crosses fleury to the gables. The early 13th century western tower is of two stages. The chancel has a fine tiled floor with three polished limestone steps and a marble and mosaic renedos. The arch braced roof rests on stone corbles and has a scheme of painted decoration of flowers and dog tooth. On the side walls there are oil painted panels of angel musicians. The church has a 13th century font on a facetted stem with a square base. On the north aisle wall there are two early 19th century Neo-Classical wall tablets in white marbel with antefixae and an urn, to members of the Caldecot family of Halton Hall.
