Full Description
Cropmarks of a series of enclosures and boundaries of probable prehistoric or Roman date, to the north-west of Lake Farm, Thoresway. Identified on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. The enclosures are curvilinear and rectilinear in plan, though fragmentary in nature, with none being complete. Several are parallel to and associated with linear boundary ditches. The principal, larger enclosure has a possible breadth of c.60m, and is centred on TF 1879 9992. The western side of this enclosure is defined by three ditches, which, together with the northern side, extend beyond the main enclosure, possibly forming parts of conjoined enclosures or boundaries. A smaller enclosure measuring roughly 20m by 15m lies to the south, at TF 1881 9980. An attached sinuous linear boundary runs from this enclosure in a north-east direction for c.190m. A further possible small enclosure, visible as a semi-circular ditched feature measuring roughly 20m across, lies to the east of the group, at TF 1889 9992. The remains of a Neolithic long barrow lies in the centre of the group (see MLI51706). {1}{2}{3}
