Full Description

Cropmarks of a large, wedge-shaped enclosure with a possible entrance to the east, overlooking Normanby Dales. There is a short linear feature adjacent to the northern side (see MLI51596). Possibly the remains of a Neolithic long barrow. {1}{2} Initially thought to possibly be the remains of a Neolithic long barrow, this interpretation was later rejected by Dilwyn Jones on the basis of further aerial photographic evidence. The feature is now thought to be the remains of an enclosure of probable prehistoric or Roman date. The cropmarks show a rectilinear feature, defined by a single ditch measuring 75m by 50m, with an entrance on the eastern side. Its shape and position is thought to be uncharacterisitc of Lincolnshire long barrow types, and a function as a possible stock corral is thought more likely. {3}{4}
