Full Description

Cropmarks of a probable Neolitic long barrow, to the south-east of Langton Grange. The feature is situated on the tip of a low spur, at the head of the valley. It lies below the ridge summit, and is aligned on a roughly north-east to south-west axis, with the long axis traversing the contours. It takes the form of a trapezoidal, spoon-shaped enclosure with convex terminals, all seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1995. The Spellow Hills long barrow (see MLI43169) lies on the lower slope, 120m to the south, and on a different alignment. {1}{2}{3][4} More recent analysis of the aerial photographic evidence showed this feature as cropmarks with only the encircling ditch visible, with no trace of any overlying mound. The barrow is aligned on a north-east to south-west axis, and measures 67m in length and c.19m across at the north-eastern, rounded end, tapering slightly to 12m across at the south-western end. {5}
