The fields to the south and east of Kelstern church are full of old field boundary ditches, and earthworks of the former field system. {1}
The fields to the south and east of Kelstern church were levelled and ploughed in the spring of 1969. Field walking by the archaeology class at Grimsby Western Boy's School identified a spread of medieval pottery in an area to the south-east of the church. The assemblage included sherds from a range of different wares, including pieces of 13th century Shelly ware. {2}
