Full Description
A polished flint celt [axe head], leaf-shaped, transverse and barbed and tanged arrowheads were found at Baxter Square Farm. Some of these finds are in the City and County Museum, Lincoln, including leaf-shaped and transverse arrowheads (accession no.83.54). The polished axe, leaf-shaped and barbed and tanged arrowheads are reported by F. T. Baker (Director of Lincoln Museum) as being in Louth Museum (they were not located as the museum is being re-organised). A local farmer, who has farmed here for the past 30 years has no knowledge of these finds. The area indicated is ridge and furrow pasture. {1}{2}{3}{4}
These flints were probably collected by Thomas Henry Brown (1909-88) who was born at Baxter Square Farm, Burgh on Bain, and lived there for many years; his father being the tenant farmer. He had a large collection of various flints and artefacts at his home in Louth. He gave a lot of arrowheads, axe heads and various flints to Louth Museum before he died. Some remaining artefacts are still held by surviving family members. {5}
