Full Description
The site of a public house present since at least 1737, when it was called the Half Moon. {1} The original building was heavily altered in the early 1950s and was reopened In 1954. {2} The building had an L-shaped plan in the late 19th century, the floorplan of which is still conserved with a elongated rectangular single-storey eastern extension added in the mid-20th century.{3} The original building had one storey and a garret. The gabled roof had two dormer windows and at least one ridge chimney stack. The front elevation had a central doorway with two sash windows flanking it. It is possible that this building was originally a mud and stud cottage. The extensive alterations carried out in the mid 20th century led to the current iteration of the public house. The L-shaped two-storey mock Tudor style building has a gabled concrete tile roof with a northern and an eastern brick chimney stack, as well as a central brick chimney stack. {4}
