Full Description

School buildings dating to at least the late 19th century. One and a half/two storey buildings of stone, under a pitched gabled slate roof, with dressed ashlar window surrounds and quoins. The L-plan two storey wing to the east was most likely the schoolmaster's house, and has a large lateral stack on its west elevation. There is a dedication plaque or datestone on the short lateral stack on the central range of the school. Large modern classroom buildings have been added to the rear of the site. {1}{2} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the Free School in Corby Glen was founded in 1669 by a Charles Read. No date is given for the construction of the current building. The schoolmaster's house is described as having a barn, stable, and large garden. {3}
