Full Description
Former school building. White's 1872 Trade Directory notes that a school existed in Gedney Dawsmere, built in 1856 and at that time attended by around 70 pupils. It is unclear whether the extant building is the one mentioned by White or an early 20th century replacement. It is a large two storey buff brick building in Flemish Bond, under a modern hipped slate roof. The windows, three bow windows on the lower storey with windows above, are modern uPVC replacements within infilled larger window openings. The former porch has an infilled doorway, with a new entranceway in the centre of the main east elevation. {1}{2}
An attached schoolmaster's house can be seen on the 1905 OS map of Dawsmere, though this appears to have been demolished and replaced with a new red brick structure in the early 20th century. {3}
The school was closed in 1962 and has since been converted into a private residence. {4}
