Full Description

Former school. Single storey L-shape plan red brick building, under a pitched gabled slate roof. One lateral and one ridge stack. Gable is parapeted and coped. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the Free School at Risegate was founded in 1681 by Robert Marjorum, but had fallen into decay and was due to be rebuilt. The 1872 Directory also states that the school was yet to be rebuilt. A dedication stone on the front gable is inscribed 'REBUILT BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION 1876'. {2}{3} It is unclear when the school was closed.
