Full Description

19th century school buildings. One and a half storey seven bay red brick schoolroom in English Bond, under a pitched gabled tile roof. Narrow buttresses interspersing pairs of pointed segmental arch windows. The building has been extended in the late 20th or early 21st century by another three bays to the southeast, constructed in sympathetic style. One large gable stack to southwest. There is a dentil course under the eaves. A two storey red brick former schoolmaster's house to the northwest now forms part of the school offices. The building has been extended significantly to the northwest, including the creation of a new reception area between the schoolroom and schoolmaster's house, which has led to one of the gable windows of the schoolroom being infilled. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school was founded in 1723, but was recently rebuilt to accommodate up to 200 pupils. It had at that time an attendance of 150 children. {2}
