Full Description

Former school. Large red brick building with buff brick banding. Ashlar stone window surrounds. Pitched gabled slate roof with stone coping and corbelled shoulders. Two storey wing to the south may have been teacher's residence. Modern shopfront extension on the west street-facing elevation. {1} The building can be seen marked as a school on the 1887 and 1905 OS maps of Skegness. It appears to have been expanded between the two dates, with a small single storey extension to the north. {2}{3} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a "small free school is supported by subscription" in the village of Skegness. It is unclear if that school was on the same site. {4} It is likely that this is the National School referred to in White's 1872 Directory. {5} It is unclear when the building ceased to be used as a school.
