Full Description

19th century school building comprising three ranges, one two storey east-west range and two parallel north-south ranges. The east-west range is constructed of red brick in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled modern slate roof. A small gabled door canopy with decorative bargeboards and finial sits over the entrance and a datestone reading '18(8)4'. To the left of the entrance is a modern bay window with an 8 over 8 casement window above. The front north-south aligned range is one and a half storey constructed in red brick in Flemish Bond, with blue brick headers forming simple diamond diapering, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. The gable has a stone parapet and stone corbels on the gable shoulders. The front elevation has three 6 light casement windows with concrete sills and lintels. The south gable elevation has two narrow arch windows and a dedication stone inscribed 'NATIONAL SCHOOL 1847'. The rear north-south aligned range is a small single storey range also built in red brick, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Other modern outbuildings and classroom buildings have been added to the site. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the school was erected as a National School in 1847. {2}
