Full Description

School building dating to the mid 19th century. Two storey red and buff brick building, under a pitched gabled tile roof. Front elevation has 4 three-pointed arch windows on the ground floor and 5 more on the first floor, and a three-pointed arch door opening on the ground floor. {1} The 1906 OS map shows a larger rectangular buildling to the southwest of the surviving building, though this appears to have been demolished and replaced by other modern schoolrooms. {2} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that a school and master's house were built in 1857, at a cost of £900, raised by subscription. It is assumed that the surviving building is the schoolmaster's house, and that the schoolroom was demolished and replaced. {3}
