Full Description

Former school building. Single storey red brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled tile roof. The southern end of the building, built in orange brick, may have been rebuilt at a later date The rear range of this later phase has a single-pitch felt roof. Two doors on the street-facing elevation have been infilled with brick, as has one window on the rear extension. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school was being run as a National School, and was attended at the time by about 60 pupils. {2} The building has the same L-shape plan form shown on the 1906 OS map of the village. {3} The school appears to have been closed in 1908. The Lindsey County Council Education Committee made the decision on the basis that 'the children attending… can without hardship attend neighbouring schools'. {4}
