Full Description

Former infant school. Two storey brick building in English Bond with blue brick banding and diapering. Dentil course at eaves height. The northern street-facing gable end has a datestone or dedication plaque. Six course plinth with blue brick or tile coping. One ridge stack, one gable stack. The large window openings on the gables have been partially infilled and replaced with modern casement windows. {1} Although its plan form has not changed since the 1906 OS map, the southern range appears to have been rebuilt in newer machine-cut brick, and a new flat roof porch has been added. Interestingly, the 1906 OS map marks the building as a Sunday School, suggesting that the day school may have been closed by that date. {2} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the village only had an infant school, and that older pupils were sent to Raithby school, which was for the use of both parishes. {3}
