Full Description

Former school and probable schoolmaster's house. Two storey brick building, under a pitched gabled roof of slate, consisting of three parallel ranges. Modern extensions to the rear. Several windows have been infilled and a roller shutter door has been added to the south elevation, suggesting that at some point the two larger ranges to the south may have been used for storage or industrial purposes. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that a National School was to be erected in the school later that year, at an estimated cost of £500. The land for the school was donated by the lord of the manor. {2} The 1906 OS map shows the building in a squat L-shape plan form, and the only additions in the 20th and 21st centuries appear to be the extension to the rear. A large modern red brick industrial unit has been built towards the east of the site. {3}
