Full Description
Primary school on High Street, Newton-on-Trent High Street. The original building is of red brick construction in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of pantiles. It consists of a single storey range, likely the schoolroom, with two small ridge stacks. This is attached at its northern end to a two storey range, presumed to be the schoolmaster's house, which has two larger gable stacks. The school building has had some small modern alterations, including the addition of a small single storey extension to the west elevation and replacement uPVC windows. {1}{2}
Two new detached classroom buildings were constructed in the early 21st century. {3}
White's 1856 and 1872 Trade Directories make no mention of a school in the village. {4}{5}
