Full Description

Former National School on Saxilby High Street. A small 1 1/2 storey building of red brick construction in English Bond, under a pitched gabled tile roof. One end stack. There are two ccourses of black brick decoration above and below the windows, which also have black and red brick lintels. A five course plinth is topped by a black brick or tile coping. Above the door is an inset stone plaque that reads 'INFANT SCHOOL'. The front elevation has several half-storey buttresses with brick tumbling. Modern alterations include a large weatherboarded dormer on the front elevation. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the National School was erected in 1845. It is shown in its current form on the 1906 OS map of the village. {2}{3}
