Full Description

Former rectory to the north-west of Fulletby, thought to date from the 19th century. The building is thought to have been converted into a private residence in abut 1960. Photographs taken of the building in the early and mid 20th century show the building to be of two storeys, with pitched slate roofs and featuring several large, brick chimney stacks at the various gable ends. The building looks to have been constructed of ashlar stone, although is now largely obscured by render. The building is thought to have been a replacement for an earlier rectory located in Fulletby, which is believed to have burnt down. The building originally featured a decorative doorknocker on the front door, made of cast iron in the shape of a lion's head, and thought to date from c.1800-1830. This doorknocker was replaced with a new knocker during a phase of repair works to the building, but was separately retained by the owners as a rare survival. The doorknocker was very large, measuring 255mm overall, with the head being 175mm long by 145mm wide. It has been suggested that the maker of the knocker was Archibald Kenrick & Sons of West Bromwich, although this is not conclusively known. {1}
