Full Description

School building. Cross-wing plan one/two storey red brick building, under a pitched gabled roof. One gable stack, one lateral stack, two ridge stacks. Yellow brick quoins and window surrounds. A modern datestone on the front elevation reads ‘1852’. A large single storey modern hall building, built in sympathetic style, has been added to the site and is linked to the original structure by a new reception room. It is now run as a Junior School, with younger children sent to Marshchapel Infant School. {1} White’s 1856 Trade Directory states that there was a school in the parish previously, but this was replaced by the current structure in 1852 at a cost of £287. {2} The school is shown in the same plan form on the 1888, 1907, and 1951 OS maps of Grainthorpe, and appears relatively materially unaltered until the construction of the hall building. {3}{4}{5}
