Full Description

A 19th century public house built in 1884. The public house was previously located closer to the church, on land adjacent to the current building. The previous building was demolished due to its dilapidated state and the new building was constructed. {1} In the 19th century the then inn comprised a courtyard mostly enclosed by the main L-shaped building and L-shaped stables and possible coach houses. {2} All of the inn's complex remains except for the north-south aligned wing of the L-shaped outbuildings, which was demolished in the second half of the 20th century to make way for a car park. {3}{4} The main public house building is constructed of red brick with coloured banding and hasa double-pitched roof with multiple brick stacks along each ridge. The ground floor of the front elevation has a bay window to either side with dentil cornice and half-hipped roof; the central doorway is flanked by two marginal sashes with swept stone heads and plain sills. On the first floor there are two marginal sashes on either side and a central marginal bar sash window. The leftmost and rightmost bays of the front elevation portrude, and are topped with decorative bargeboards and a slate roof with vertical crest tiles along each ridge. {5}
