Full Description

Nettleton Grange, Nettleton. Redeveloped 19th century farmstead. Loose courtyard with L-plan range plus detached buildings to the fourth side of the yard. The farmhouse is attached to a range of working buildings. Isolated location. Large modern sheds are located on the site. {1} A historic building survey was undertaken in June 2020 to inform the proposed conversion of the disused farm buildings to a residential dwelling. The complex of buildings is in a ruinous state. The surviving buildings consist of a two storey East range, of which only the walls survive, a number of external and internal dividing walls in various states of dilapidation, and a north-facing lean-to cattle shelter to the northwest of the complex constructed in the mid-late 20th century. The north and south ranges of the complex, seen on the 2nd Edition OS Map, have either been demolished or fallen down and only remnants of the south external wall survive. The two storey eastern range is in ruinous condition and has no roof but the external wall, built of dressed stone, brick, and breeze block still survives. The enclosed crewyard is bisected by a north-south aligned boundary wall creating two smaller yards. At some point in the 20th century the eastern crewyard was covered, as shown on the 1975 OS map, though only fragments of corrugated iron on the crewyard floor survive. {2}{3}
