Full Description

The footprint of this building is present on the 1906 map but not the 1887 map, which would suggest that the building was constructed in the intervening period. It is currently used as a village hall. The new premises for the school look to date from the 1990s, suggesting that this building's use changed at the same time. {1}{2} The hall is a five bay, two storey red brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled slate roof. It has two wall dormers on the front elevation housing large window openings. All of the windows are modern uPVC replacements. There is a simple brick string course beneath the eaves. {3} Records from the Lincolnshire archives state that the school was built as North Kelsey Board School in 1896 by the North Kelsey School Board, formed in 1886. It became North Kelsey Council School in 1903, and North Kelsey County School, c.1947. The school was known as North Kelsey County Primary School prior to September 1999, and then as North Kelsey Primary School. The original premises are now used as a village hall. The current title has been used since c.2003. {4} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a National School existed in the parish. The 1872 Directory records that a new National School was built in 1857, at cost of £450. The school was, at the time, attended by 96 children, and a new classroom was being built. It is not clear from historic mapping where this building was located. {5}{6}
