Full Description
Former school on the corner of Church Street and Stoney Lane. Cross-winged plan of white painted brick, under a pitched gabled roof of slate with one large and two small ridge stacks. The school bell is still in situ on the roof ridge. {1}
It is present on both the 1887 and 1906 OS maps of the village in its current plan. {2}{3}
White's 1856 Directory of Lincolnshire states that the school was built in 1840, and lists a Joseph Spencer as the schoolmaster. {4}
Records of Glentworth County school state that the school was originally opened as a parochial school, which was rebuilt in 1876. It was taken over by Lindsey County Council in 1920, becoming Glentworth Council School, and from 1947 Glentworth County School. The school officially closed on 19th December 1969, with the children transferred to Hemswell RAF School. {5}
