Description

LINCOLN SK9771SE HIGH STREET 1941-1/12/158 (West side) 15/08/73 Nos.262 AND 262A Garmston House II House, now a shop with offices above. Late C17, incorporating part of a late C12 building. Refronted and extended c1772, converted to a theatre and cinema c1911, restored and reconverted 1991. Coursed rubble and brick, with stucco front and slate roofs with 2 side wall stacks. EXTERIOR: chamfered quoins, projecting pedimented centre, modillion cornice, parapet with balustrade panels. 2 storeys; 3 window range with renewed glazing. Full width wooden shopfront, 1991, in a pastiche C19 style, with central panelled double door and fanlight flanked by turned double columns. On either side, a segment arched shop window flanked on the outer side by a single column. Above, a central round arched window with Ionic flanking pilasters with entablatures, moulded head and keystone. On either side, a Venetian window of similar design, with corbelled sill. INTERIOR is known to contain in the north wall a late C12 twinned recess with shallow pointed arches and joggled voussoirs. Fragments remain of a C17 roof, altered c1765.
